Phnom Penh: Phnom Penh Governor, Mr. Khuong Sreng, says the capital’s high-risk businesses are to remain closed. He did not specify when they may be allowed to reopen. Administrative measures extending their closure were to expire on Saturday 3 July but have now been extended once again for the foreseeable future.

Gyms, schools, KTVs, bars, beer gardens, massage parlours, cinemas and museums  have been closed in the capital since March.

At the same time, the governor said home treatment is a “good option” for those who have been vaccinated with two doses of the Covid-19 but have still been infected.

Mr. Khuong Sreng chaired a meeting of his 14 district administrators on Saturday afternoon. He says some 300 patients with mild Covid-19 are currently receiving home treatment.

"We will discuss in more detail the mechanisms that need to be well-organized to ensure the provision of health services to these people.”

He has requested that the 14 khan (district) authorities cooperate with health officials and the Samdech Techo Volunteer Youth Doctor Association, TYDA, to provide education and guidance for those receiving home treatment. Each khan is to establish a headquarters to monitor these patients.

Mr. Khuong Sreng concluded that there have been “a lot of infections” in the past two weeks, but those who have contracted Covid, despite having been inoculated, are only showing mild symptoms. He believes this is evidence that the vaccines are effective in preventing severe Covid-19 and that home treatment is appropriate for these patients.

The Ministry of Health and the National Covid-19 Committee released guidelines last week for the treatment of Covid-19 patients in the home.
